Moving Day Tips for a Smoother Move
(Courtesy of Bank of America)
Here are some handy tips you can pass along to your clients to help make the moving process a more pleasant experience and provide a little extra service they were not expecting.
Moving Day Quick List
Don’t forget these moving-day essentials:
• Provide snacks and drinks for movers and friends who are helping out.
• Gather all of the house keys and any keys to outside buildings.
• Charge your cell phone the night before.
• Empty, defrost and clean out your refrigerator.
• Check the house, going through every room, including the attic and outside storage areas.
• Plan on time for cleaning after the moving truck is loaded.
• Make arrangements to be sure all garbage is picked up.
• Have cash on hand for tips for the movers, if you’ve used a professional moving company.
Moving In Quick List
And at the new house:
• Before moving items in, place a doormat at your new home to avoid tracking in mud, and cover hardwood floors or light-colored carpets. You can take the doors off the hinges to make moving bulky items easier.
• Make setting up beds early on the first day a priority.
• Install new batteries in carbon monoxide and smoke detectors in your new home.
• Arrange to have gas appliances connected by a professional or by the gas company.
• If you’ve retained a moving company, review the moving documents carefully before you sign them. Keep these and all related papers in a safe location until all charges have been paid and all claims, if any, have been settled.
• If you’ve used a moving company, check your boxes and large furniture items against the inventory you created while packing, to make sure everything arrived.
